About the team

We are three Natural Sciences students with complementary skills in biology, zoology, geology, and ecology. We can identify plant and animal species, understand riverine ecosystems, and assess environmental impacts. Experienced in field sampling, monitoring, and GIS, we have ideas to restore the Mississippi Delta by reducing wave motion, improving water flow, and adapting infrastructure. We are looking for motivated people to join our team and contribute to this project.

Our vision

In 2120, the Mississippi Delta won't look much different from the one you see today. But one takes a closer look, suddenly small but important changes appear evident; fields have become more harmonious with the landscape, and intertwine with solar farms and extensive water features; although the floodplain is not as large as it once was, the river now has more wiggle space to do what it must. The cities have become much greener, less hot during summer, and homes are safe and well lit even during the most intense hurricanes. Looking out at sea, one will see the marshes expanding again, and between the leaves of the mangroves spot wind turbines were oil rigs once crowded the horizon.

Our inventory & analysis

We,ve taken into consideration the environmental, geological and socio-economic context of the area to help identify the core problem to be excessive river velocity caused by levee confinement and increased precipitation. To address this problem we believe the restoration of the floodplain should be prioritized, progressing side to side with Coastal protection, Agricultural adaptation and Energy transition as a way to shift major production activities from being part of the problem to part of the solution.
